SNUUC Coffee Hour: Tips, tricks and reminders

Thanks so much for signing up to host Coffee Hour! Please arrive by 10 a.m.

Bring With You
A half-gallon of milk, a quart of half-and-half (you may also bring lactose-free or flavored varieties as you wish!). Enough food to feed 60. Some ideas are: bagels, muffins, butter, cream cheese, coffee cake, pound cake, yummy homemade goodies, fruit, cookies. Bagels can be sliced into quarters, as people often like to take a bit of this and that. It’s nice to provide something gluten-free. But remember, this is a snack – not lunch!

Find in the SNUUC Kitchen
Coffee, regular and decaf (in the refrigerator), tea, sugar/no-calorie sweeteners, silver metal pitchers for milk, paper napkins, plastic ware and metal servers and flatware, pitchers of filtered water, basket to collect donations.

Tablecloths are in the center section of the credenza in the foyer.

Coffee mugs are either in the dishwasher, which needs to be emptied by you (please) or stacked on trays in the kitchen. Set out the cups before worship begins because they can be a bit noisy.

Make the Coffee – start by 10:15 a.m.
Use the larger, AdCraft pot for regular coffee, making 40 cups; use the smaller, Hamilton Beach pot for decaf, making 20 cups of decaf. Carefully consult the assembly diagrams for the pots that are posted on the kitchen wall.
40 cups = 3 measuring cups of regular coffee
20 cups = 1 ½ measuring cups of decaf coffee

The coffee takes about an hour to brew. Please brew the coffee in the kitchen, on the counter or cart; note that the pots will be easier to lift onto the cart before they’re filled with water; in either case, please plug directly into the wall outlet. The lights come on when the coffee is done.

Set up the table in the foyer with tablecloth, coffee stirrers, sugar/no-calorie sweeteners, milk in silver pitchers, paper napkins and small plates, tea bags, small basket for coffee donations (collection is given to the board member on duty) and the goodies you will be serving.

The coffee pots are put on the cart, which is rolled out into the foyer during the closing song so as not to interfere with worship. The cart is stationed near the credenza, where the mugs are set out; plug the pots into the wall socket. The tea kettle, plugged into the power strip on the left of the credenza, is set out with tea bags and sweeteners nearby. Coffee Hour should be served by 11:45 a.m., the official end time for worship, but please watch the timing of the service as it can vary.

Stay behind the table during coffee hour to enjoy all the compliments!

CLEAN-UP (please do leave the kitchen in better shape than you found it)
Dump coffee grinds into garbage, taking care to leave as little as possible to go down the drain; dump leftover coffee and rinse out the urns; please wash all of the parts that come out of the pot.

Please wash, dry and put away any serving plates, silverware, milk pitchers, etc., that do not fit in the dishwasher. Put all of the mugs in the dishwasher and please be sure to turn it on before you leave. Wipe counters in the kitchen.
Throw away the garbage from the foyer and the kitchen in the trash container in the parking lot. Recyclable plastic, glass and metal items go in the blue garbage can in the pantry area beside the kitchen.

Vacuum the foyer carpet; the vacuum cleaner is in the utility area between the kitchen and foyer.

Take home with you any dirty tablecloths and dishtowels – please remember to return them! They often disappear, never to be seen again!

Please TAKE HOME any leftover food items, especially milk products!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR A JOB WELL DONE!
